A row marked 3 1 has a run of three filled squares, a gap of at least one, then a run of one.

A run of 4 in five squares covers the middle three wherever it starts, so fill those first.

When a line is complete, mark the leftover squares with an X so you never fill them by mistake.

What is a nonogram?
A nonogram is a picture logic puzzle. Numbers beside each row and above each column tell you the lengths of the runs of filled squares in that line. Solve all the lines and a picture appears. They're also called Picross, Griddlers, or Paint by Numbers.
